Abstract

In today’s digital age, mobile phones play a significant role in shaping students' learning behavior. One advantage is their ability to facilitate collaboration in group projects and enhance knowledge exchange. However, Segarra (2021) found that many students develop mobile phone addiction, often without realizing it, which can negatively impact their studies. This research explores the effects of mobile phone usage on the learning behavior of Grade 6 students, as observed by teachers. Additionally, the study aims to develop guidelines to help students improve their learning habits. This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive research design. The respondents consisted of 27 Grade 6 teachers from Holy Spirit Elementary School. Data was collected through a researcher-made survey questionnaire. The study utilized purposive random sampling, and the data was analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and ranking as statistical tools. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that most respondents are female and have 16–20 years of teaching experience. The study identified the effects of mobile phone usage on students' learning behavior, with the following average weighted means:  Interpersonal skills – 3.21 Intrapersonal skills – 2.92 Initiative skills – 3.40 Teachers also evaluated the impact of mobile phones on students' academic performance in specific areas:  Class participation – 2.86 Group activities – 3.22 Summative tests – 2.88 The study found that students used mobile phones for group research, fostering independence and creativity. However, teachers observed several negative effects, including:  Lack of focus due to constant notifications and distractions. Reduced work quality as a result of mobile phone overuse. Incomplete assignments caused by excessive screen time. Prioritization of gaming over learning, making classroom engagement more difficult. To mitigate these issues, teachers implemented classroom monitoring strategies to help students stay focused on their studies.
