Abstract

Information gathering is essential not only in academics but also in various fields. This study aims to examine the advantages and disadvantages of both traditional and digital methods of acquiring information. By analyzing these approaches, individuals, organizations, and institutions can make informed decisions on the most effective strategies for information acquisition across different contexts." This study utilized a descriptive-quantitative research design to examine the perceptions of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. A cluster sampling technique was employed to select 150 students from six different sections. Data were collected through a face-to-face survey using a structured questionnaire. The responses were classified into four categories: strongly agree, agree, disagree, and strongly disagree." The study's findings reveal that Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students generally agree on the effectiveness of both traditional and digital information-gathering methods in terms of accessibility, quality, and cost, with an overall weighted mean of 3.22. Moreover, respondents strongly agree on the factors influencing information gathering. For traditional sources, challenges such as time consumption, outdated information, and information literacy were identified, with an overall weighted mean of 3.28. Meanwhile, for digital sources, concerns regarding media literacy, internet connectivity, and cybersecurity were noted, with an overall weighted mean of 3.38. These results emphasize the significant role of both traditional and digital sources in shaping the information-gathering process across different aspects of research and learning." "In conclusion, utilizing both traditional and digital sources plays a crucial role in helping students gather information and improve their academic performance. This study recommends that students develop critical thinking skills to evaluate the credibility and reliability of information from various sources. Additionally, an action plan has been proposed to enhance students' media and information literacy. The findings of this study can serve as a foundation for future improvements in information-gathering strategies, ensuring that students maximize the benefits of both traditional and digital resources in their learning and research."
