Abstract

The study suggests that contemporary housing units could be a solution to the housing problems in the Philippines. These units are ideal for families because they require minimal maintenance and feature a minimalist design, which simplifies cleaning, especially for households with children. Additionally, contemporary housing is both affordable and cost-effective. Purposive sampling was used alongside a descriptive research method in this study. Survey questionnaires served as the primary instruments for data collection. A t-test was conducted to assess the differences in evaluations between the two groups of respondents. The results indicated that the proposed model of contemporary housing units is generally acceptable regarding construction materials, structural design, floor plan, architectural features, and overall presentation. There were no significant differences between the assessments of the two respondent groups. Civil engineers reported an overall weighted mean of 2.66 with a variance of 0.178, while architects reported a mean of 2.92 with a variance of 0.446. The t-computed value was 0.092, and the t-critical value was 1.1189. Hence, we accept the null hypothesis (Ho), which suggests that there is no significant difference in the assessments of the two groups regarding the previously mentioned variables. In conclusion, the following recommendations and suggestions aim to enhance the study. The researchers recommend conducting in-depth research on interior planning layouts and floor plan design. Additionally, respondents suggest considering the flow of water from the gable to the balcony of the house..
