Abstract

Socio-economic status (SES) is a term used by sociologists, economists, and other social scientists to describe the class standing of an individual or group. It is measured by several factors, including income, occupation, and education, and it can have either a positive or negative impact on a person’s life. We focused on the lower class because of the three social classes; the lower class has larger needs than other classes. The effects of SES have a problem, which has faced the academic performance of the students. This study focused on the effects of the socio-economic background of students on their academic performance. Hence, the effects of socio-economic background on student performance were strictly analyzed by the result of the study, which indicated that socio-economic background affects the academic performance of the learner. The researchers used qualitative and descriptive methods to determine and answer the questions and perspectives that can help researchers in finding reliable sources and information in the current study conducted. In choosing the respondents from each section, the researchers used the sampling technique. The researchers found out they are not necessarily suffering from financial needs; for them, socio-economic status is not a hindrance to their academic performance. Some students recommend that they are many solutions if they have a problem with their allowance and payments to school, they can work while studying, or they can make sidelines to their school like selling some foods at every room at school.1. Most of the answers of the students are neutral. Their academic performances are not affected by the socioeconomic status because another student recommends that socioeconomic status is not a hindrance for you to stop your education. 2. Attendance, school activities, and school requirements are the common problems encountered by Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences Strand students. 3. Have work and manage a small business in school are usually the recommended solution. 4. Socio-economic status has a huge role for the students. It can be a hindrance to their academic performance, but you can make a solution for that problem.
