Abstract

This study explores how crises affect start-up businesses along Susano Road, Novaliches, Quezon City, emphasizing their resilience strategies and commitment to sustainable practices in response to volatile market and environmental challenges. Guided by the business resilience and post-crisis transformation theory proposed by Bachtiar et al. (2023), this study utilized a descriptive-quantitative research design and gathered data from 21 purposively selected start-up business owners. The study analyzed the profiles of start-up businesses—including years of operation, initial capital, operating hours, and industry type—and evaluated their awareness, adaptation, and response to crises such as natural disasters. Results show that most have been operating for 2–3 years, started with a capital of ₱200,000 or more, and are primarily involved in the food and beverage sector. Findings indicate high levels of resilience awareness (WM = 3.67), adaptation (WM = 3.62), and action (WM = 3.71), reflecting strong preparedness and proactive crisis management among start-ups. However, Kruskal-Wallis H-test results show that while years of operation and capitalization have no significant impact on resilience, operating hours and industry type do (p < 0.05), underscoring the influence of contextual factors. In response, the study proposes a development plan featuring quarterly training, digital tool integration, business continuity planning, flexible business models, emergency funds, and peer support. These insights highlight the need for tailored resilience strategies and sustainable practices to ensure the long-term stability and competitiveness of start-ups in uncertain environments.
