Abstract

This study investigates the correlation between verbal communication skills and academic performance among Grade 11 and 12 students under the General Academic Strand at Bestlink College of the Philippines. It aims to determine the extent to which effective verbal communication contributes to students’ academic success. The findings of this research seek to provide valuable insights that may assist educators in enhancing verbal communication development within the academic environment. A quantitative research design is employed using a survey questionnaire administered to 80 randomly selected respondents. The study focuses on components such as listening and comprehension, language proficiency, and pronunciation. Data are collected through surveys and interviews, assessing the students’ ability to effectively convey and interpret information. The findings revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between verbal communication skills and academic performance among Grade 11 and 12 students. Those who demonstrated higher proficiency in verbal communication tended to achieve better academic outcomes. This indicates that strong verbal communication skills are closely associated with improved academic performance. This study highlights the importance of integrating verbal communication skills development into the curriculum of the General Academic Strand at Bestlink College of the Philippines. The positive relationship between communication skills and academic success suggests that educators should implement strategies and activities aimed at improving students’ communication abilities. Such efforts may enhance students’ overall academic achievement and address verbal communication challenges effectively.
