Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of Semi-Authentic Broadcasts (SAB) on the listening comprehension skills of first-year English majors at Bestlink College of the Philippines, taking into account their age and gender. This study adopted a quasi-experimental research design, involving forty (40) first-year English major students from section 1201 at Bestlink College of the Philippines. The study found that most respondents were male and aged between 17 and 19. Exposure to Speech Audiobooks (SAB) enhanced students' listening comprehension, particularly in recognizing dialect and accent variations. It also contributed to vocabulary development and improved the ability to follow storylines. Overall, notable improvements in listening proficiency and academic performance were observed after using SAB. The results of the study demonstrate that speech audiobooks are highly effective in developing students’ listening comprehension skills. Therefore, the researchers recommend incorporating speech audiobooks as a regular instructional tool to enhance the learning experience and improve auditory processing in the classroom.
