Abstract

Effective inventory management is vital for service-based businesses like Rhea Mercado Hair and Make-up Salon for Men & Women. Manual product tracking often results in errors, inefficiencies, and poor decision-making, which can disrupt salon operations. Since the timely availability of hair and make-up products is essential, delays in stock monitoring can negatively impact service delivery. Although digital inventory systems have been proven to improve accuracy, reduce waste, and streamline stock management, many small salons still rely on manual methods. This highlights a gap in adopting modern solutions. Implementing a digital inventory system would enable the salon to enhance inventory control, improve operational efficiency, and make better-informed decisions. Data was gathered through interviews and surveys conducted with the salon owner and staff involved in inventory management. Using their input, the researchers defined the system requirements and developed the inventory management system with NetBeans for the user interface, Java for programming, and MySQL for the database. The development process comprised requirement analysis, system design, coding, testing, and incorporating user feedback. The system was subsequently tested by the salon staff to ensure it met their inventory tracking and stock management needs. The inventory management system developed for Rhea Mercado Hair and Make-up Salon for Men & Women successfully achieved its objectives. It provided real-time inventory tracking, generated comprehensive reports, and optimized the overall inventory process. System testing confirmed smooth operation, significantly reducing manual errors and the time needed for stock monitoring. All intended features were effectively implemented, and the system performed efficiently during practical use. The inventory management system developed for Rhea Mercado Hair and Make-up Salon for Men & Women effectively resolved the salon’s inventory challenges by improving real-time tracking, reducing manual tasks, and facilitating easier report generation. These results are consistent with prior studies emphasizing the benefits of digital systems in enhancing efficiency and reducing errors. However, the study was limited to a single salon and a brief testing period. Future research should consider involving more users and extending the evaluation timeframe. Overall, the system proved to be a practical solution for small business inventory management and can serve as a model for similar enterprises.
