Abstract

Community safety and security are essential for fostering public well-being and a healthy living environment. In highly urbanized areas such as Quezon City, rapid population growth, urbanization, and socioeconomic disparities have contributed to increasing crime rates and safety concerns. These challenges are also present in Olympus Village, located in Barangay Kaligayahan. In response, various community-based programs have been introduced to address security issues and improve public safety within the village. This study utilizes a quantitative research method focused on collecting and analyzing numerical data to assess the effectiveness of community-based security programs. Structured tools such as surveys and questionnaires were administered to gather reliable and objective responses from participants. The data were analyzed using statistical tools to identify patterns and correlations relevant to security issues, with the goal of offering informed and practical solutions to enhance community safety in Olympus Village. Findings revealed that the most commonly encountered issue among respondents was the lack of adequate CCTV cameras, with 46 out of 50 respondents (92%) identifying this concern. As a recommended action, respondents proposed installing additional CCTV cameras in critical areas such as entrances, exits, and common spaces. This initiative aims to enhance surveillance, deter criminal activity, improve incident response times, and support investigations through recorded evidence. The majority of respondents were aged 26 to 33, predominantly male, and high school graduates. In assessing the effectiveness of existing community-based security programs, respondents strongly agreed on the value of initiatives such as Police-Community Partnerships, Citizen Police Academy Education, Community Reporting Mobile Applications, Community-Funded CCTV projects, and School Safety Education Programs. Agreement was also noted in terms of the effectiveness of Community-Organized Group Monitoring. Based on these findings, the study recommends the installation of additional CCTV systems in strategic locations as a key measure to strengthen peace and order in Olympus Village.
