EFFECTIVENESS OF CB IN FACEBOOK PLATFORM IN TEACHING HISTORY OF SELECTED PHILIPPINE FOLK DANCES

The aim of this study is to explore the effectiveness of Competency-Based (CB) approaches on the Facebook platform for teaching the history of selected Philippine folk dances to students. Understanding the results of this study has significant implications for education. By recognizing Facebook's potential as an instructional tool for first-year Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) students, this research seeks to assess how effective the CB approach is when utilized in this social media context for teaching the history of selected Philippine folk dances. Using a quasi-experimental quantitative research design, the study involves seventy-six (76) first-year BPED students through a cluster sampling technique. Survey questionnaires and checklists serve as the primary instruments for data collection. The results of the study highlight several key findings. A total of 76 participants were involved in the research. The analysis revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, with a p-value of 0.000, indicating statistical significance (p < 0.05). The negative Z score of -6.996 suggests that posttest scores were significantly higher than pretest scores, demonstrating substantial improvement among the students. The study examines the effectiveness of the learning material, specifically the CB (course material), on the Facebook platform. The data collected indicates that posttest scores were significantly higher than pretest scores, demonstrating substantial improvement among the students. Based on these findings, we reject the null hypothesis, concluding that the intervention had a significant positive effect. Most participants showed improvement, underscoring the effectiveness of the CB on the Facebook platform in enhancing their understanding of Philippine folk dance. This further indicates that the instructional material, CB on the Facebook platform, is effective for both learning and teaching.
