Abstract

The development of a Solar-Based Smart Home and Front Yard Automation system using ESP and Arduino MCU integrates various home systems and appliances into a centralized control platform, typically through smartphones, allowing homeowners to manage their homes remotely. The system incorporates ESP8266 as its core and enables home and front yard automation through Android devices. This initiative allows users to control appliances such as light bulbs and sockets using a dedicated Android application. The system also includes manual control buttons and integrates Alexa Echo Dot for voice control functions. The primary objective of this research is to enhance the quality of life for homeowners by providing convenience, efficiency, comfort, and security. This study applies the Experimental Prototyping Methodology, in which a prototype is constructed, tested, and revised as necessary until an acceptable result is achieved, serving as the basis for producing the full system or product. The prototype was tested to ensure that all components functioned correctly within the control system. Adjustments to wiring and cable management were made to prevent short circuits and potential damage. The prototype operated successfully during testing and production. Survey results indicated evaluators’ responses of “Agree” and above, suggesting that the prototype was acceptable. Evaluation was conducted with participants from Barangay Fairview, Quezon City. Through the Experimental Prototyping Method, the researchers gathered the necessary requirements and data to create a miniature house prototype. Each room was equipped with an automated 1.5-watt bulb, except for the control room, and a 100-watt solar panel was installed on the roof. Experiments and tests confirmed that all components functioned according to their intended purpose and objectives. The solar power system contributed to energy conservation and lower electricity consumption. The experimental prototyping process yielded a functional main control system, automatic transfer switch, and solar power system, demonstrating the prototype’s reliability and feasibility in terms of functionality, availability, and user acceptance.
