Abstract

This study focuses on the development of an automated mouse trap system integrated with real-time video surveillance, using Arduino Uno R4 and ESP32 microcontrollers. The system aims to provide an innovative approach to pest control by combining traditional trapping mechanisms with modern sensor and surveillance technologies. The trap incorporates proximity sensors, a servo motor, and an SMS module to ensure real-time response and remote monitoring. This solution seeks to enhance property protection and pest management efficiency in both residential and commercial environments. The research explores the design, implementation, and evaluation of the system, assessing its potential as a viable tool for rodent control. The study employs an experimental prototype development approach to assess the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed mouse trap. The process involves identifying material requirements, assembling the initial prototype, conducting evaluations, and implementing necessary adjustments based on testing feedback. The prototype features core components such as the Arduino Uno R4, ESP32 for video surveillance, a GSM900 module for SMS notifications, and a PWM-controlled servo motor. Trial-and-error iterations were conducted to enhance system performance and ensure all modules operated as intended. The researchers successfully developed the mouse trap prototype using designated sensors, microcontrollers, power supply components, and an SMS module. Proper wiring and configuration were ensured based on a detailed schematic diagram. Functional testing confirmed that each component performed according to design specifications. The system effectively detected rodent presence, activated the trapping mechanism, and sent real-time SMS alerts. The integration with ESP32 enabled real-time video monitoring, which added an additional layer of functionality to the system. The study demonstrated that the combination of traditional pest control methods with modern automation and surveillance technology offers a reliable and efficient rodent management solution. The prototype’s core mechanisms, including its real-time video monitoring, automated trapping, and SMS alert system, functioned effectively based on testing results. Although the system showed high potential, minor constraints related to connectivity and power supply were observed. Future improvements may focus on enhancing wireless stability and energy efficiency and expanding the trap’s coverage area to further improve usability and scalability.
