Abstract

The World Health Organization (2020) underscores the importance of effective waste management in supporting sustainable tourism development. It calls for strategic approaches to monitor, reduce, and properly manage waste. Beyond mitigating the direct environmental effects of tourism, waste management also promotes circular economic principles and encourages the reduction of waste at its source. This study aims to analyze the demographic profile of visitors to Wawa Dam in Barangay San Rafael, Rodriguez, Rizal; assess the existing waste management strategies, including collection, transfer, implementation of the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), treatment, and disposal; and identify the challenges experienced by respondents. The goal is to propose actionable recommendations for improving and sustaining effective waste management practices at the site. This study aims to examine the environmental impacts of existing waste management practices at Wawa Dam and to develop more effective and sustainable approaches. It seeks to assess how current strategies influence the surrounding environment and to propose improvements that will promote long-term environmental sustainability in the Wawa Dam area. This study aims to support the development of more efficient and sustainable waste management strategies that ensure the long-term environmental sustainability of the area.
