Abstract

 

The Latin phrase “Probate” (which means to test or to prove) is where the English word probation was first coined. It is a form of treatment that was created as a non-custodial substitute and is employed by the judiciary when guilt has been shown; furthermore, ever it is felt that imposing a prison sentence would be ineffective. After being released from prison, he will have a harder time readjusting to normal life, and hanging out with criminals frequently has negative impacts. A significant, contemporary approach to addressing criminals is the probation system. In its place, it adopts a criminal philosophy based on humanitarianism and utilitarianism, which breaks from conventional thought focused on the idea of deterrence through punishment. As a result, the probationary program is an essential component of the criminal code.

The researchers will make use of a descriptive design that seeks to evaluate and assess the Effectiveness of Granting Probation to the Person Deprived of Liberty in Barangay 176 Bagong Silang Caloocan City. The researchers also used the purposive sampling technique to get their respondents among ten (10) Probationers and ten (10) Probation officers in Barangay 176 Bagong Silang Caloocan City with a total population of twenty (20) respondents. Researchers also made a survey questionnaire containing questions related to our study that can be answered with a 1 to 4-point rating scale.

The outcome of the study about the Effectiveness of granting probation to the person deprived of liberty of barangay 176 bagong silang Caloocan city indicates that all of the respondents agreed probation can provide an opportunity for PDLs to reconnect with their families, maintain family relationships, and assume responsibilities within the family unit and opportunity for rehabilitation, Probation can provide a structured environment for PDLs to engage in rehabilitation programs aimed at addressing the root causes of their criminal behavior Reintegration into society, Probation can facilitate a PDLs reintegration into the community allowing them to rebuild their life and establish a sense of normalcy.

The research revealed a notable reduction in recidivism rates among individuals granted probation in barangay 176 Bagong Silang Caloocan City. Many probationers demonstrated a lower likelihood of reoffending, suggesting that the probation system plays a positive role in rehabilitating offenders.
