Abstract

Everyone is a product of a union between a man and a woman and is very much shaped by
those who raised them, their parents. Trends in public opinion toward greater support for the
legal recognition of same-sex couples are discussed. The rise in support for same-sex
relationships over the past decade is among the largest changes in opinion on any policy
issue over time. However, people or couples who are in a same-sex relationship too often find
their experience marred by bullying, discrimination, lack of access to LGBTQ-related
information, and, in some cases, physical or sexual assault.

Probing further on the meaning of the three existing emergent themes. The couples’ response
is based on their experiences, and they come out that challenges and love made their
relationship stronger. In same-sex relationships, there are instances of conflict,
misunderstanding, and discrimination that could be encountered. Through acceptance and
love, they would know how it may affect their decision based on what they feel is right in a
given situation. In addition, love made them satisfied and contented with each other, which
created a strong relationship.

Following the process of the phenomenological descriptive method of Giorgi (2003), forty (40)
meaning units were extracted from same-sex couples, which evolved into the development of
meaning units reflecting the experiences of the informants. From these meaning units,
seventeen (17) concepts, twenty-two (22) categories, and three (3) themes were drawn from
the informants’ narrative data.
