Abstract

Financial Difficulties are situations where money worries cause stress. Many people are facing hard financial times, including students. This study examines what kind of financial difficulties students face and the effects of financial difficulties. The result is the students choose to stop rather than continue their studies. Financial difficulties may also affect students in their daily lives; students get tired of studying and prefer to earn money. Some students, for financial reasons, cannot pay attention in class. Rather, they are thinking of how to get money to buy their practical materials, hands out, and other needs.

A qualitative descriptive method was used. The researchers surveyed the utilization of questionnaires to the 50 selected grade 11 students of the home economics strand at Bestlink College of the Philippines. Most of them can answer the questionnaires regarding the status of working students. The grade 11 students of the home economics strand who participated in the survey regarding the effect of financial difficulties on academic performance in terms of parent’s monthly income and student debts said that some of the students struggled with their school fees and failed in their academic performance because of conflict on their time management. To lessen the problem of the grade 11 students, the solution is to apply for scholarships or apply for Avon financial assistance in Bestlink to provide the school fees and school needs.
