Abstract

This study discusses the effectiveness of learning Nihongo as a foreign language in the Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management program at Bestlink College of The Philippines. It analyzed how tourism students can see the importance of using Nihongo's language regarding academic requirements, job opportunities, and career advancement. Thus, the study aims to understand tourism students' perceptions of effectiveness in learning Nihongo in terms of grammar, pronunciation, and level of politeness.

According to the data, the respondents agreed that learning a foreign language is important to tourism management. When pursuing a job abroad, obtaining the ability to communicate in a foreign language will increase a student's marketability by enabling them to engage with individuals from different languages and, as a result, have a deeper understanding of their culture. The respondents also agreed that learning Nihongo is effective since students can complete tasks accurately and participate in constructive and reliable classroom activities. The survey's findings aid academics in creating an essential suggested guideline for students to advance their proficiency in foreign languages.

 

The descriptive method design was used in this study. With the help of this technique, the researcher will be able to examine a large portion of the target population and draw the necessary conclusions regarding the variables. The information gathered from the responses will be presented statistically. The study utilized simple random sampling, and 100 Bestlink College of the Philippines fourth-year tourism students who were officially enrolled for the academic year 2022–2023 and who took the subject of Foreign Language in Nihongo were chosen to respond to the survey to obtain their honest responses. The weighted mean and the percentage were utilized to analyze the information gathered.
