Academic Burnout among Selected BSED Mathematics Major Students at Bestlink College of the Philippines

Abstract

Although burnout is a chronic workplace stress that is mostly seen in workplaces, it is also present in students. This study aims to assess the academic burnout of the BSED mathematics major students and is limited to 44 respondents, 11 per year level, using the statistical treatment frequency tables, percentage, weighted mean, and Likert scale. The instrument used in this research passed the 0.70 reliability test and the research design used is descriptive-quantitative research with stratified random sampling as the sampling method. The level of burnout among the students in terms of the three dimensions of burnout (exhaustion, cynicism, and professional efficiency) are as follows; students are occasionally exhausted, have a rarely cynical attitude towards ones' study, and have a professional efficacy frequently. The recitation and participation of the students is agreeing, while activities, examination, school workload, time management, and financial capability is neutral. The researchers makes a guidelines and it highlights that  to limit the risk of academic burnout, students should get a good rest and regular sleep, teacher should consider giving a just amount of workload to the students, and administrators make the school events more attractive.
