Abstract

This study focused on the Effects of Goal Setting on Academic Performance of Values major students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. Due to the existing hindrances that may have an effect in settings goals. Even we, the researchers, are also struggling to set our own goals. The usual barrier that we encountered as a student is that it’s complex for us to set goals cause of confusion about what we need to do first. Due to a great extent of consecutive loadings of school tasks, resulting in drowning and unsure timeline of actions. Additionally, when there are a lot of tasks, it is frequently seen as a threat instead of a challenge. Therefore, we repeatedly deal with a mistake in setting our own goals. For that reason, sometimes we are unable to progress into a bigger and better thing. The researchers perceive that most of the students who are disorganized to their goal are frequently misaligned resulting to failure. 

The researchers used the descriptive quantitative design. The population of this study consist of 1st year to 4th year values major students. The researchers utilized simple random technique using the fishbowl lottery. There are (32) thirty-two respondents were chosen. The main instrument applied in this research is a questionnaire. The survey questionnaires are originally made by the researchers and carefully prepared for the respondents. The data gather will analyze using percentage, and weighted mean.

The values major students who are participated in our survey regarding to the Effects of goal setting on Academic Performances. Majority of the result as regards in setting goals especially in academic performances are often. The values major students sometimes encountered various barriers to set goals. However, two of the most frequent barriers encountered by students are social environment and overloaded of school works. To deal with these barriers’ recommendations were made for the student planning their goals.

The result shows that the students are commonly set their own goals, however they are struggling in making it due to the numerous barriers that they encountered. The students may apply the SMART method in every action and plans that they need in practicing goal setting. As well as school administrator should strengthen their goals and objectives for the betterment of the students.
