Abstract

In today’s situation where the cases of Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) arise, the sense of Virtual Learning become more essential. Online education is becoming the fallback of the educational system not only in the Philippines but in other and almost all the countries all over the world. Thus, in this research which is entitled “Effects of Virtual Learning to the Performance of 3rd-Year English Major Students of Bestlink College of the Philippines” wants to know how the performance of students being affected by the new pace of learning which is the virtual class. Hence, the researchers were challenged to determine the effects of Virtual learning to the performance of 3rd Year English Major Students at Bestlink College of the Philippines and to gain insights on what to do to enhance the quality of virtual learning.

The research design used in this study was quantitative research that present more accurate and reliable data. It used descriptive method of research as it provides answers to the questions of who, what, when, where, why (5W) and how of the study. It was conducted at Bestlink College of the Philippines during this academic year 2022- 2023, where fifty (50) students in 3rd-Year English Major are the chosen as respondents of this study wherein purposive quota sampling is used. It used survey questionnaire as an instrument in conducting the study which has a set of orderly arranged questions carefully prepared by researchers to answer the specific problems from statement of the problem. Data gathered was tallied facilitated using tables and interpretation.  The weighted mean values of the area inquiry were likewise computed.

Based on the results, most respondents were female ages from 19-22 from BSED 3102-E. After the thorough analysis and interpretation of the data gathered, researchers found out that the virtual learning of the students evaluated as ‘Strongly Agree’ in terms of discussion, activities, and assessment. This indicates the virtual learning was conducted successfully and thus it reflects to the academic performance of the students which was evaluated as ‘Strongly Agree’ in terms of participation, recitation, and examination. Data revealed that there were challenges encountered by the students in conducting virtual learning but according to the results, those challenges did not affect the performances of students. Hence, there is no significant relationship between conducting virtual learning and the performances of the students. 

Finally, study revealed that most of the 3rd-Year English Major Student at Bestlink College of the Philippines experienced variety of problems in terms of how a virtual learning being done. As to this problem, the crafted guidelines is realized and made by the researchers for students, teachers, parents, and future researchers to be guided by the various effects of virtual learning to the performances of the students at school. Recommendations were also gathered and drawn to assist students in having their virtual classes to maintain a good academic performance.
