Abstract

Stress and other problems students face were common in society even before the pandemic, and the new normal, notably at school, worsened problems for everyone, especially for students. These could be the result of increased technological skill requirements, increased output, and information overload. The COVID-19 pandemic made these effects worse as educational institutions transitioned from in-person activities to primarily online learning modes to stem the spread of COVID-19. Many of us didn’t expect the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic survey warrant better management—and, in some cases, rapid treatment, such as rising levels of distress. The National Alliances on Mental Illnesses, NAMI 2020 claims that the new normal has created a variety of challenges in our lives, notably in terms of our education. Surveys from several studies have shown that students and school staff alike struggle to deal with the recent event that gave rise to some problems.

This descriptive study was conducted to determine the impact of blended learning on difficulties among third year English major students at BCP. Questions were formulated to guide the study and to determine the difficulties students encountered in terms of their physical and mental, financial, social, decision making, critical thinking, attitude, and other problems following the blended learning.

Finally, the researchers concluded that during blended learning, where majority of respondents are female and have age ranges from 20-23 years old, and 36% of them are from section 3103 English major students. Who underwent blended learning which makes them stay and have classes most of the time inside their house. The respondents agreed to have experienced difficulties in terms of their attitude amidst blended learning.  While they disagreed to have encountered difficulties in terms of their social while in the middle of blended learning. Lastly, time pressure doing activities is the problem that most encountered by students in blended learning, and lack of resources is said to be the least problem of the 25 respondents. After conducting the research and survey, the researchers found out that most of the respondents agreed to have experience difficulties in terms of their attitude amidst blended learning, while some disagreed to have encountered difficulties in terms of their social.

The study reveals the difficulties students have encountered following the pandemic, where if not taken seriously students might have encountered more problems in the future. Hence, this will allow the school to monitor the students’ experience where lessen the possibility of difficulties that may result in students’ poor performance and other difficulties, personally and academically.
