Problems Encountered in Online Learning Modality of Grade Six Learners at Culiat Elementary School

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic brought extraordinary challenges has affected the educational sector and online learning modality makes a factor in learning with us since pandemic. The DepEd find ways to keep the learning process going despite the challenges and uncertainly pose by the Covid-19 while maintaining the health, safety and well-being of learners and teachers using online learning modality. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization or UNESCO, over 800 million learners around the world have been affected by Covid-19. 

The researchers use quantitative method and employ descriptive method design and the respondents of our study are from grade six learners in different section at Culiat Elementary School and random sampling technique was used in selecting the respondents. The Researchers get the number of the respondents by computing the sample population of the grade six learners and researchers construct a researcher-made survey questionnaire with 32 items and administered and retrieved the survey questionnaire manually.

For the results, the demographic profile of the respondent 10-11 years old get a percentage of 57% and 56.67% of them are female. 33.33% of the respondents are from the section of Mabini with 60% of them are using cellphone. It was found out that the problems in expenses have an average weighted mean of 3.53 and for the internet connection it had 3.57. In parental support got 3.01 average weighted mean. In class participation with the results of 3.2 average weighted mean.

The majorities of the respondents are female and ages between 10-11 years. For the section of the respondents most of them are from section Mabini and the gadgets used by the respondents in their online learning are Cellphone. The respondents agree that they encountered those problems in terms of expenses and internet connection. For the parental support the respondents are neutral that they encountered those problems in terms of parental support. In the class participation the respondents are also neutral that those problems are affecting their class performance.
