Abstract

The global COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on educational system. The impact of closed schools and children stuck at home with little or no access to education has been devastating for schools, students, and parents therefore, establishing well-informed policy to prepare for the new normal in school education necessitates a dialogue at all education levels. The flexible model of blended learning is adopted and implemented by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd). This study aims to examine and discuss the challenges encountered to the new normal education by the grade III learners of Silanganan Elementary School.

The researchers utilized the descriptive method to focus on the challenges encountered to the new normal education by grade III learners of Silanganan Elementary School using the purposive sampling method, researchers chose thirty (30) in three different sections. Researchers constructed a 64 -item survey questionnaire.

After thorough analysis of the data the researcher found out that there are experiences by respondents in terms of curriculum with average weighted mean of 4.25%; teaching strategies with average weighted mean of 4.47%; blended learning with average weighted mean of 3.89%; academic performance with average weighted mean of 4.03%; and educational system with average weighted mean of 4.47%. There are challenges that they encountered in the new normal education in terms of blended learning with average weighted mean of 3.67, in time of study with average weighted mean of 3.49 In terms of location with average weighted mean of 3.59 and in learning material with average weighted mean of 3.71. There are experiences by the respondents in the new normal education and these are intellectually challenging, the module in the online platform meets their needs in studying the lesson and the creative teaching helps them to be engage in class. They can learn effectively by integrating the materials with the online platform, the online platform helps students prepare for their examination and educational system is effective with an actual learning experience. The challenges they encountered in the new normal education are difficulties in internet connection, students develop poor posture and other physical issues because of spending too much time slumped over the screen. learners do not have internet connection due to their place not having a signal and poor budgeting of allowance for printable modules. The appropriate action to address challenges encountered by the respondents is the school shall provide mechanism to inform and orient learners on the new normal education system.
