Robbery may be defined under article 293 of the revised penal code as an unlawful, forcible taking of a victim's property from the person of the victim. Robbery is distinguished from other unlawful seizures of property, such as larceny and burglary, in that the property seized is taken directly from the person of the victim and there is involved the use or threat of force. The incidence of robbery varies only slightly according to geographical location, and the occurrence of such incidents is fairly constant throughout the week.

Street robbery is more spatially concentrated than the other property crime, the areas where robbery is concentrated are small and well distinguished, with stricter controls of law and prevention programs. In general, police initiating crime prevention efforts could reduce the opportunities for crime. Citizens can act as an individual to prevent crime by serving as witnesses, intervening in attempts of offences, and taking precautions to prevent cases of robbery.
