Abstract

This study focused on how effective practice reading sessions are in improving the reading comprehension of Grade 12 Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM)students. This study will enhance the students’ reading comprehension by using learning modules. The reason for choosing this study is to help fellow students develop their reading skills and gain knowledge about unfamiliar words. The importance of the study is to address the problems experienced by the students in reading such as, but not limited, to pronunciation that will boost their self-confidence. This study used a survey questionnaire method to gather information and collect data from the respondents. The researchers also used the descriptive research design. The respondents of the study were 50 selected Grade 12 ABM students of Bestlink College of the Philippines. Based on the results of the study, using learning module positively affected the reading comprehension of Grade 12 students in terms of (1) pronunciation (practicing reading comprehension has positive effects on the pronunciation with the use of learning modules), (2) reading stutter (practicing reading comprehension has positively affected reading stutter that is enhanced using learning module), and (3) lack of confidence (practicing reading comprehension positively affected the lack of confidence that is improved with the use of learning module. Based on the summary of findings, the following recommendations were made by the researchers to improve the reading comprehension of Grade 12 students in terms of (1) Pronunciation (the study suggested to continue practicing reading to gain more knowledge on how to pronounce words correctly), (2) reading stutter (the researcher suggested to continue read unfamiliar words, and (3) lack of confidence (the students were suggested to continue reading to gain knowledge that will boost self-confidence).
