Abstract

A performer should show more of his or her talents. Public performance is considered “public” if they are outside of a normal circle of friends or family, including concerts, nightclubs, and restaurants. Improving themselves is a stepping stone to success and growth. The researchers conducted this study to know the impact of participation in public performance. This research used a qualitative-descriptive method and utilized purposive sampling to choose the selected grade 12 Performing Arts students to assess the impact of participation in public performances. The finding showed that in terms of self-confidence, both respondent groups strongly agreed, with a weighted mean of 4.31 in male respondents and 3.95 in female respondents. In terms of talent and skills, male respondents strongly agreed, with a weighted mean of 4.33, while female respondents agreed, with a weighted mean of 3.07. In terms of social skills, both respondent groups strongly agreed, with a weighted mean of 4.36 in male respondents and 4.03 in female respondents and an overall weighted mean of 4.33 for male respondents and 4.02 for female respondents. Both groups strongly agreed that self-confidence, talent, skills, and social skills had impacts on participation in the public performance of grade 12 Performing Arts students. The finding of the study and conclusions drew the following recommendations. The impact of participation in a public performance in terms of social skills showed that students need to be flexible people. A performer should learn how to adjust in different situations to connect with their co-performers and the audience. A live performance can give them the reality of performing to the people around them. It will break the barrier of doubt and shyness of a person. In terms of self-confidence, students must explore other mediums to increase their self-esteem. They need to be comfortable in every performance. In terms of talents and skills, they can teach other performers about their skills to have another knowledge. Participating in public performance can make a performer versatile with regard to talents and skills. In terms of social skills, students need to be flexible people. A performer should learn how to adjust in different situations to connect with other performers and the audience. A live performance can also give them the reality of performing to the people around them and break the barrier of doubt and shyness of a person.
