An escape tube is a special kind of emergency exit that is used where conventional fire escape stairways are impractical. The chute is a fabric (or occasionally metal) tube installed near a special exit on an upper floor or roof of a building. It can be used by an individual who a proper training on using this chute and for those persons that are physically healthy and are 18–30 years old. This will lessen the number of persons who will use the conventional emergency exit and will avoid a stampede. Hence, the researchers develop this vertichute as an emergency exit in residential buildings. This study used an experimental research design to explain and evaluate the research project. The respondents of the study were five civil engineers and five National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) members who assessed the level of acceptability of a vertichute miniature in terms of materials used, methods and procedures, durability, mechanism, and project demonstration. In the construction of the project, the general procedures are as follows: design an accurate measurement of the floor plan, prepare all the materials needed to construct the project, get the dimension of the building with the vertichute with the right measurements, apply the process of making vertichute slide out of a condom, perform the design of the building out of cardboards, install the vertichute on the respective area on the building, and design small details on the miniature to make it more attractive and presentable. The results of this study in terms of materials used, methods and procedures, durability, mechanism, and project demonstration were acceptable. This result indicated that the difference between the assessments of the two groups of respondents in terms of the cited variables was not significant. Civil engineers obtained an overall weighted mean of 2.90, which was interpreted as acceptable with the variance of 0.073842, while the NDRRMC members obtained an overall weighted mean of 2.72, which was interpreted as acceptable with the variance of 0.05488. Both groups of respondents obtained a t-computed value of 1.1204 and a degree of freedom of 8 with the value of 2.89645. The t-computed value was larger than the t-critical one. As a result, the assessments of the two groups of respondents are accepted. Based on the conclusions that were drawn, the following recommendations were forwarded. In the appropriation of using materials used, the respondents recommended using plywood as the base of the project. for project demonstration, put a vertichute on every side of the building for better exits. The two groups of respondents agreed that the project needs to refer to different laws, design guidelines, and construction codes that apply to the miniature. This project should have paid more time to the mechanism for higher-quality functions. The researchers should apply the recommendations forwarded by the respondents to improve the project. Further improvement of the study will be helpful for future researches.</p> ER -
