Abstract

The increasing number of violations against Republic Act (RA) 7610 in the Philippines underscores the urgent need for child protection. This law, designed to safeguard children from abuse, exploitation, and discrimination, is crucial in addressing these pressing social concerns. However, a significant challenge remains: many parents struggle to fully comprehend the provisions and implications of RA 7610. This study aims to identify the barriers that hinder parental understanding of the law and proposes targeted educational campaigns to enhance awareness and comprehension. By doing so, the research contributes to strengthening child protection efforts at the community level. The study employed a quantitative research approach with a descriptive design to assess parental understanding of RA 7610 in Barangay San Isidro, Rodriguez, Rizal. It explored parental knowledge of the law, its implementation, and existing child protection programs. Furthermore, the study examined the challenges parents face in grasping the law's provisions and suggested educational interventions to improve awareness and application. The findings indicate that parents generally exhibit a positive response to RA 7610, with many expressing strong agreement on its importance and implementation. However, the study identified a significant barrier: socioeconomic limitations hinder parental access to information about the law. This highlights the necessity of awareness campaigns that are accessible and inclusive. To address this issue, the study recommends a multi-platform approach that utilizes social media, television, radio, and community events to ensure a broader reach and engagement. Beyond merely disseminating information about RA 7610, awareness campaigns should provide practical guidance on integrating the law's principles into everyday life. Collaboration with schools, parent-teacher associations, and non-governmental organizations is essential for effectively distributing educational materials and fostering open communication with parents. This study not only evaluates parental awareness of RA 7610 but also proposes a strategic framework for overcoming barriers to understanding. By addressing socioeconomic challenges, leveraging diverse communication channels, and offering practical applications, the research contributes to empowering parents as key stakeholders in child protection efforts.
