Abstract

The increasing number of street children is a major societal concern, as many of them are left vulnerable to street crimes and lack access to education. To address this issue, researchers proposed a miniature public daycare center in Novaliches, Quezon City, aimed at providing street children with a safe learning environment. The goal is to educate them about the importance of education and motivate them to pursue their studies, offering them better opportunities for the future through government support. This study employed a quantitative descriptive research design using a purposive sampling technique. A t-test was conducted to determine whether there was a significant difference in the evaluations of five architects and five civil engineers. A questionnaire was used as the primary research instrument to assess the acceptability of the miniature daycare center in terms of construction materials, floor plan, structural design, structural stability, and overall presentation. The evaluation results indicated that the miniature daycare center was deemed acceptable in all assessed categories. Architects provided an overall weighted mean score of 3.65, interpreted as highly acceptable, while civil engineers gave a score of 3.21, interpreted as acceptable. The t-computed value was 2.0062 with a degree of freedom of 8 and a t-critical value of 2.306, indicating no significant difference between the two groups' assessments. The feedback from both architects and civil engineers provided valuable insights for further improving the miniature daycare center. Key recommendations included using Styrofoam for construction, optimizing space usage, minimizing dead spaces and hallways, adhering to standard toilet and cubicle dimensions, incorporating sectional views, and adding rendering to elevation views. Implementing these suggestions will enhance the design and functionality of the proposed daycare center.
