Abstract

The Philippines' vulnerability to natural disasters necessitates robust disaster risk reduction and management strategies. This study aims to assess both natural and man-made disasters, focusing on Quezon City's resilience practices, to inform the development of an effective disaster risk reduction management program. This study employs a quantitative descriptive research design to assess the current level of disaster awareness among residents, barangay officials, and Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (QCDRRMC) volunteers in Barangay Novaliches Proper, Quezon City. A self-constructed questionnaire was administered to a total of 50 respondents, comprising 30 residents, 10 barangay officials, and 10 QCDRRMC volunteers. The study assessed the community's awareness of the disaster risk reduction program in Barangay Novaliches Proper, Quezon City, involving 50 respondents. The overall awareness level achieved a mean score of 3.32 on a 4-point Likert scale, indicating that respondents are "Extremely Aware" of the program. This score falls within the 3.26–4.00 range, corresponding to the highest awareness category. Emergency Preparedness: Mean score of 3.37 Evacuation Areas: Mean score of 3.22 Equipment Resources: Mean score of 3.36 Relief Goods Distribution: Mean score of 3.34 These findings suggest that while the community demonstrates a high level of awareness in most areas, there is a slightly lower awareness regarding evacuation areas. This insight could guide future initiatives to enhance community knowledge and preparedness in this specific aspect. The study indicates that the community in Barangay Novaliches Proper, Quezon City, exhibits a very high level of awareness regarding disaster risk reduction programs. To maintain and enhance this awareness, barangay officials are encouraged to implement continuous education and training initiatives. These efforts align with the objectives of the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (QCDRRMC), which aims to foster a sustainable and resilient city through inclusive disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) systems.
