Factors that Affect Choice of Right School for Grade 11 as Assessed by Grade 12 General Academic Strand Students of Bestlink College of the Philippines, S.Y. 2019–2020

Abstract

This research entitled aimed to know the factors that may affect the students’ choice of senior high school. Some students are having a hard time deciding what school is right for them. The main aim of this study was to determine the factors that affect students’ school choices. The study used a quantitative descriptive research design, which will elaborate on the recommendations to be taken to determine the factors that affect the choice of the right school for Grade 11 students. Purposive sampling was utilized to select 50 General Academic Strand students to assess the factors that affect the choice of right school. The factors that affect the choice of the right school for Grade 11 students are tuition/miscellaneous fees, school facilities, and the school’s location. With the weighted means of 2.83 for male respondents and 3.27 for female respondents, both groups agreed that one of the factors is tuition/miscellaneous fees. With the weighted means of 3.23 for male respondents and 3.9 weighted mean for female respondents, both groups agreed that school facilities are a factor in choosing the right school. With the weighted means of 3.38 for male respondents and 3.39 for female respondents, both groups agreed that school location affects the students’ school choice. The overall weighted mean of 3.14 was obtained for male respondents, with the verbal interpretation of agree, while that for female respondents was 3.52, with a verbal interpretation of strongly agree. Based on the findings of the study and the conclusions that were drawn, the following recommendations were forwarded: students should find a school near them; they ask help from old students from the school they want to be admitted to; they should check the facilities, safety of the school, school benefits and standards, and school communication and connections; and they should consider financial and practical aspects, academic and extracurricular aspects, feelings and values, class size, personal values and preferences, practical aspects, and school-specific factors.
