Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of an understaffed workforce on employee performance at Emnace's Grill, Quezon City, particularly during high workload periods due to mismanagement. Organizational structures, task complexities, and departmental variations contribute to workload imbalances. Employees' perception of inequitable workload distribution may lead to dissatisfaction, reduced morale, and decreased productivity. A descriptive quantitative research design was employed to assess the impact of an understaffed workforce on employee performance. Data was gathered through a survey of 20 respondents employed at Emnace’s Grill, Quezon City. The study examined employee demographics, work hours, and perceptions of workload distribution and recognition. Findings indicate that 75% of respondents are male and fall within the 26-35 age bracket. Additionally, 85% identify as single. All respondents reported working 9 to 16 hours per shift while maintaining professional grooming standards. A weighted mean of 2.90 suggests that respondents strongly agree that acknowledging employees' efforts, attitudes, and skills positively impacts their performance. Moreover, employees believe that an understaffed workforce can still bring success to the business. However, over-fatigue, reported by 15% of respondents, is a significant concern, as prolonged working hours negatively impact productivity and well-being. Survey results highlight challenges such as understaffing, long working hours, and a lack of recognition. To address these issues, management should hire additional staff, introduce uniforms, expand dining space, enhance promotional strategies, recognize employee contributions, and fairly redistribute tasks. Providing competitive salaries and fostering open communication will contribute to a more positive work environment.
