Abstract

Rodriguez, Rizal, a mountainous municipality and one of the wealthiest in the Philippines (Esquire Philippines, 2022), has embraced ecotourism as a core aspect of its culture, policy, and development. The town actively promotes its natural attractions, positioning them as premier destinations for nature enthusiasts. One of its standout ecotourism sites is Wawa Dam in Barangay San Rafael, a picturesque river ideal for swimming and diving. Ongoing ecotourism projects in the area aim to showcase best practices, strengthen partnerships among stakeholders, and implement sustainable strategies for environmental conservation and resource management, further enhancing Rodriguez’s appeal as an eco-friendly tourism hub. This study employs a descriptive research design, a widely used approach among researchers and scientists to gain deeper insights into a specific population or subject (Sirisilla, 2023). Descriptive research provides a comprehensive and accurate representation of the characteristics, behaviors, and trends within a given community or topic. By systematically observing and collecting data, this method allows researchers to better understand underlying issues, identify patterns, and generate valuable insights that contribute to informed decision-making and further studies. The management of various tourist destinations appears to be lacking, underscoring the need for a more structured and efficient administrative approach. Effective oversight is essential to ensure that all aspects of the attraction are well-managed, supported by a knowledgeable and well-trained staff. Visitors have emphasized the importance of enhancing the San Rafael River Adventure by prioritizing safety, environmental conservation, and overall guest satisfaction. The materials used in constructing eco-tourism sites should be sourced sustainably to minimize environmental impact. Utilizing renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydro power is often a more practical and cost-efficient alternative to fossil fuels, reducing strain on local resources. To further mitigate ecological disruption, tourist facilities should be built on the outskirts of park boundaries. Additionally, collaboration among government officials, eco-tourism operators, conservation groups, and non-governmental organizations is essential. These partnerships can provide crucial support, including funding, training, and technical expertise, ensuring both the legitimacy and long-term sustainability of eco-tourism projects.
