Abstract

This study explores the role of the Barangay Child Protection Council (BCPC) in addressing childhood trauma within the community of Payatas, Quezon City. The use of participatory approaches empowers residents by involving them in the decision-making process and equipping them with the knowledge and tools to effectively confront issues related to childhood trauma. Key focus areas include the prevention of childhood trauma, access to counseling services, legal assistance, and community-based education programs. By actively engaging community members, a sense of shared responsibility and accountability is fostered, ultimately strengthening the council’s capacity to respond to and mitigate trauma among children. This study includes the following components: research design, study respondents, sampling techniques, research instrument, validation procedures, administration and retrieval of the instrument, as well as the statistical tools and methods used for data analysis and interpretation. The study involved a total of 70 respondents, including childhood trauma victims, residents of Barangay Payatas, representatives from PNP Station 13, Barangay officials, and personnel from the City Social Welfare and Development Office. The majority of the respondents were female, aged between 18 and 25 years old. Results indicated that most respondents strongly agreed with the effectiveness of the Barangay Child Protection Council’s (BCPC) programs and interventions in the areas of childhood trauma prevention, counseling, legal assistance, and community education. However, the study also revealed key challenges encountered by BCPC members in implementing these programs. The most commonly identified issues were "inadequate support from local government units, which limits the scope of initiatives," and "insufficient funding for programs and services. To assess the role of the Barangay Child Protection Council in addressing childhood trauma in Payatas, Quezon City, the researchers will employ a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design. The study will involve a total of 70 respondents, including 40 childhood trauma victims, 10 officers from PNP Station 13, 10 Barangay Payatas officials, and 10 representatives from the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) office. A survey questionnaire will serve as the primary instrument for data collection, designed to gather insights on the effectiveness of BCPC programs and the challenges faced in their implementation.
