Abstract

The effects of traffic congestion in Barangay Bagumbong are multifaceted, encompassing economic, environmental, and social dimensions. Economically, congestion results in significant productivity losses as residents and commuters experience prolonged travel times. This study aims to assess the impact of traffic congestion in Barangay Bagumbong, Caloocan City, with the goal of identifying its key causes and consequences. The study involved 30 respondents, consisting of 12 residents, 3 traffic enforcers, and 15 commuters from Barangay Bagumbong, Caloocan City. A purposive sampling technique was employed to determine the appropriate number and type of respondents for the study. A quantitative descriptive research design was used to assess the impact of traffic congestion in the area. For the administration and retrieval of the research instrument, the researcher personally approached the respondents, obtained informed consent, and distributed the surveys. Completed questionnaires were then collected and securely stored to maintain confidentiality. The findings revealed that, based on the assessment, the Social Impact had an overall weighted mean rating of 3.45, interpreted as Strongly Agree. The Health Impact recorded an overall weighted mean of 3.26 (Strongly Agree), while the Environmental Impact had an overall weighted mean of 3.28 (Strongly Agree). The Economic Impact yielded an overall weighted mean of 3.34 (Strongly Agree), and the Transportation Impact received the highest rating, with an overall weighted mean of 3.58 (Strongly Agree). It is recommended that traffic management strategies and urban planning initiatives be implemented to address congestion in Barangay Bagumbong. Policymakers should focus on improving infrastructure, optimizing traffic flow, and enhancing public transportation to promote sustainable development. The study also highlights the direct impact of congestion on residents’ daily lives, underscoring the need for policies aimed at reducing emissions and improving air quality.
