Abstract

This study aims to develop a new lip balm formulation using pink pitaya (dragon fruit) extract combined with a strawberry scent. The formulation is designed to address common skin-related concerns such as dry and chapped lips. The research also seeks to demonstrate the product's potential marketability. Data were gathered through purposive sampling from two groups of respondents: dermatologists and fourth-year entrepreneurship students. A descriptive-experimental research design was employed. The study used questionnaires and product testing to assess the lip balm's effectiveness and quality. Respondents were selected based on their relevance to the study, ensuring informed and credible feedback on the formulation. The experimental process evaluated both the dermatological benefits and market acceptability of the product. The findings revealed positive evaluations from both groups of respondents. In terms of effectiveness, the lip balm demonstrated the ability to soothe chapped lips and provide immediate comfort. Regarding quality, it was noted to contain natural ingredients that nourished the lips, contributing to a healthier appearance and feel. Statistical analysis showed that dermatologists reported an overall mean of 3.680 with a variance of 0.087, while fourth-year entrepreneur students reported a mean of 3.550 with a variance of 0.118. Both groups shared the same t-computed value of 0.760, which was less than the t-critical value of 3.106 at a 0.01 level of significance. Thus, the hypothesis was accepted, indicating no significant difference between the two groups' assessments in terms of effectiveness and quality. The study concludes that the strawberry-scented lip balm infused with pink pitaya extract is both effective and well-received in terms of quality. However, concerns were raised about long-term product stability. To address this, the researchers recommend incorporating natural preservatives to extend shelf life. Furthermore, the product is proposed for commercial use, suitable for all genders and skin types, with potential for business development in the cosmetics and skincare industry.
