STRATEGIES OF BARANGAY BAGUMBONG CALOOCAN CITY TO PREVENT YOUTHS BECOMING CHILD IN CONFLICT WITH THE LAW

The barangay functions as the primary planning and implementing unit of government programs and serves as a platform for addressing community issues and settling disputes. Barangay officials, including the captain and councilors, play a critical role in crime prevention and youth development. However, many barangays face limitations in funding and resources, which hinder the implementation of youth engagement programs designed to prevent juvenile delinquency. This study investigates the strategies employed by Barangay Bagumbong, Caloocan City in preventing youths from becoming children in conflict with the law. The study used a quantitative approach with a random sampling technique. A paper-based survey questionnaire was administered to 15 residents, 15 barangay officials, and 20 youth respondents from Barangay Bagumbong. Prior permission was obtained from barangay officials to conduct the data collection. The responses were statistically analyzed to assess the effectiveness of current strategies. Findings revealed that the respondents strongly agreed with the existing strategies implemented by Barangay Bagumbong to prevent juvenile delinquency. The weighted mean ratings for the strategies ranged from 3.34 to 3.70, indicating a generally strong level of agreement. The results highlighted the importance of these initiatives in benefiting not only the youth and local community but also barangay officials, criminology students, and future researchers. The data collected were used to develop recommendations aimed at strengthening the barangay’s preparedness and response to youth-related concerns. This study underscores the role of community-based strategies in preventing youth involvement in criminal activities. By analyzing the approaches taken by Barangay Bagumbong, the research provides valuable insights that can assist policymakers and local stakeholders in formulating more effective and inclusive programs for at-risk youth. Ultimately, this study contributes to efforts in fostering safer and more supportive communities through proactive youth development initiatives.
