Abstract

As urban food markets continue to expand, ensuring food safety and sanitation has become increasingly important. Traditional methods of market monitoring often lack efficiency and transparency. The Barangay Food Market Safety Management System (BFMS) aims to improve barangay-level monitoring through real-time concern reporting, systematic tracking of safety operations, and the use of AI-powered insights via an interactive dashboard. This system promotes community participation and supports responsive, transparent, and sustainable food market governance. The BFMS was developed through structured phases. In the Concept Phase, the project’s purpose, scope, and key features were defined. The team was then formed, and members were assigned specific roles. The Development Phase focused on building the system and conducting testing to ensure functionality and eliminate bugs. Finally, in the Release Phase, the system was launched and made accessible for public use. Ongoing support was maintained to address technical concerns and ensure the system’s effectiveness in real-world conditions. The implementation of BFMS resulted in several positive outcomes. It enhanced barangay responsiveness by enabling real-time concern reporting, improved transparency through documented resolutions, and delivered data-driven insights via the dashboard. The safety monitoring feature effectively tracked clearing operations and supported enforcement of local ordinances. The system also increased resident participation and automated routine processes, contributing to sustainable food market governance. The BFMS strengthened local governance by promoting transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in market safety management. The public concern reporting feature fostered citizen engagement, while the safety monitoring module ensured the systematic tracking of market-related operations. Through AI-powered analytics, the interactive dashboard allowed barangays to identify violations and prioritize interventions. The automation of administrative tasks further supported long-term sustainability and empowered both officials and citizens in maintaining public health and safety standards.
