Abstract

In the digital era, keyboarding has become a fundamental skill, particularly for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOA). This skill plays a vital role in completing various academic and professional tasks, including email correspondence and digital documentation. Mastery of keyboarding enhances computer efficiency and overall performance in the workplace. However, many students continue to struggle with proper techniques, such as hand positioning and accurate typing methods. This study aims to examine the impact of keyboarding skills on the performance of fourth-year BSOA interns and highlight its significance in preparing students for the demands of modern office environments. This study employs a quantitative research design. Data were gathered using a validated survey questionnaire that included items relevant to assessing the keyboarding proficiency of the respondents. A total of 155 participants, primarily female and aged between 18 to 25 years old, were selected through non-probability convenience sampling. The data were analyzed using statistical tools such as percentage, weighted mean, and Likert scale to determine trends and measure the respondents' typing proficiency and perceived performance outcomes. The findings indicated that students with higher keyboarding proficiency demonstrated improved efficiency, accuracy, and adaptability when using digital tools. These students also exhibited greater self-confidence, motivation, and readiness for real-world office tasks. Furthermore, the study found that access to quality training programs and alignment with employer expectations influenced interns' performance evaluations, job placement, and potential for career advancement. The results underscore the importance of keyboarding skills as a critical competency in today’s fast-paced office environments. Interns with strong keyboarding abilities adapt more effectively to technological systems, contribute more efficiently to organizational tasks, and meet professional standards with greater ease. These skills are especially valuable in roles requiring precision in documentation, data management, and digital communication. In response to these findings, the study recommends integrating advanced keyboarding instruction and digital performance assessments into higher education curricula to better prepare students for workforce demands.
