This study is about the influence of social media on the self-image of the 1st year Bachelor of
Science in Psychology students of Bestlink College of the Philippines. The objective of this
study is to find out whether social media has an influence on the way an individual perceives
their self-image. And to determine whether the value of an individual and their perspectives
about themselves should be based on how they compare themselves to other people.
The mean result of 2.52 indicates that physical appearance is influenced by social media, and
2.50 states that perspectives toward self are influenced by social media. The mean of 2.67
also states that the satisfaction of the respondents is influenced by social media, and the 2.63
mean indicates that their attitude about themselves is also influenced by social media. The
overall mean of 2.58 states that social media has an influence on the self-image of
respondents.
This concludes the study that social media has an influence on self-image. Based on the
findings and conclusions, the researchers recommend that social media should be used
appropriately in daily life and that awareness about its negative and positive influence on self-
image should be disseminated. A proposed action plan is made intended for the students and
school organization to bring awareness about the influence of social media on self-image.
