A Project Proposal of Malabar Spinach (Basella alba) as an Alternative Ink for Whiteboard Markers

Abstract

For many years, natural materials, including berries, bark, and leaf extracts, have been used
to make ink. When combined with other ingredients, these have been used as raw materials to
make a variety of colors, as well as ink, dye, and paint. Early in the 20th century, only a small
portion of fabric dyes were made from sources that were derived from herbs. They are
obtained from renewable sources.

The results in the study in terms of assessment of the level of acceptability of Malabar spinach
(Basella alba) as an alternative ink for whiteboard markers in terms of ingredients, procedural
methodology, effectiveness, color intensity, and odor tolerance are acceptable. It indicates
that there is no significant difference between the assessments of the two groups of
respondents in terms of the assessments of ingredients, procedural methodology,
effectiveness, color intensity, and odor tolerance. In regard to materials, the mean attained by
stem teachers is 3.44, while BSOA teachers attained 3.34. The standard deviation of stem
teachers reached 0.181, while that of BSOA teachers reached 0.230. The variance attained
by stem teachers is 0.033, while BSOA teachers attained 0.053. The T-critical value is 2.306
with a degree of freedom of 8. The T-computed value is 0.762. Therefore, it accepts Ho.

All in all, the researchers gathered all the ingredients needed for the study. The researchers
assembled the prototype and tested its efficacy. The extracted Malabar spinach was proven to
be effective for whiteboard markers.
