Abstract

This study dealt with the issue of minors’ involvement in prohibited drugs at Barangay Baesa,
Quezon City. It sought to determine the problems encountered by the barangay in the
performance of their duty, the actions taken to control the involvement of minors, and the
proposed measures to assess the problems related to prohibited drugs.

The researchers found out that based on the responses given by the respondents, the usual
factor why minors are getting involved in drugs in terms of family is a broken family; in terms of
peer groups, a child who does not go to school could lead to the involvement to drugs; lastly, in
terms of the community, there were two most answered factors which are having addict
people in the society and addict people are using the minors to buy and sell prohibited drugs.
The most common action taken by the barangay to control the involvement of minors in
prohibited drugs is the establishment of BADAC or barangay anti - drug council that aims to
help drug prevention and drug control programs of the community. Furthermore, from the data
gathered, the highest rank in the problems encountered by the barangay in the performance of
their duty is parents denying their children’s involvement in drugs. The proposed measure
based on the responses of the respondents is that parents should be aware of the people
surrounding their children and their activities outside.

The result of this study shows the urgency to prevent the involvement of minors in prohibited
drugs. Family, peer groups, and community are the different factors that could lead to one’s
involvement. The barangay’s implementation of programs and advocacies against illegal
drugs is a big help to give knowledge to people, especially minors.
