Abstract

In early 2020, scientists discovered a new infectious illness caused by a unique corona virus. Since then, the COVID-19 virus has caused huge disruptions to schools and universities. During this pandemic, one of the most used expressions had been "new normal," with the improving use of online learning resources becoming the new normal in education. The Commission on Higher Instruction (CHED) and the Division of Instruction (DepEd) receive and execute the adaptable show of mixed learning or unused typical instruction in spite of numerous restrictions. On the other hand, Spare the Children Philippines, a non-government organization, underpins the call for nonstop learning in the midst of the widespread. They accept that instruction ought to never halt indeed in these challenging times. The researchers are prompted to conduct this study to gain insights and to determine the extent of the effects of new normal education on academic performance of the students.

The descriptive-quantitative research design was used in this study to gather information or data from the respondents using survey instrument. This method described the effects of new normal education on academic performance among selected education students at Bestlink College of the Philippines. It is composed of fifty (50) education students from the College of Teachers Education Department, Further, the researchers used purposive sampling technique to gain insights. Based on the findings of the research, the following conclusions are hereto presented: Most of the respondent are belong to the age bracket of 21-23 years old. As to sex, the respondents are male and female. And as to year level, it consists of 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year and 4th year.

As to condition of students yielded the assessment of “Strongly Agree” in Communication and Online Class. While Activity yielded the assessment of “Agree”. Among the indicators, Activity had the lowest composite mean that need to address. Further, pertaining to the level of students’ academic performance. It also revealed that the respondents “Strongly Agree” in terms of recitation and participation while examination yielded the assessment of “Agree”. Among these indicators, examination had the lowest composite mean that need to address. Moreover, as to significant relationship of the conditions of the students and the level of academic performance, it revealed that they are significantly correlated with the interpretation of high positive correlation. Therefore, condition of the student has something to do with the level of academic performance. In connection with the above findings, the researchers crafted a guideline on how to improve academic performance of the students during new normal education.
