Abstract

COVID-19 had a big impact on our lives. Lockdowns and the suspension of face-to-face classes were implemented in the Philippines. Because of these, virtual classes became the new learning system. These classes pose some challenges. Some students do not participate in class and pay attention to the teacher.

One of the hardest subjects to teach online is physical education because the teacher needs to demonstrate to the student physical actions. Thus, this research aimed to identify challenges that teachers encounter in teaching physical education online during the school year 2021.

The researchers utilized the descriptive method in this research. The researchers used purposive sampling to select thirty (30) grade-level physical education teachers from the San Gabriel Elementary School.

The research found that students actively recite in class. Still, teachers observe issues in student attendance. the advantages of the teaching physical education in terms of online modality is that teachers can review material that is unclear for students. Respondents’ teachers choose creating fun and inclusive physical education.

By giving information about the challenges that they have experienced and identifying ways to overcome them when conducting virtual classes, the researchers, administrators, and other stakeholders in physical education may be able to come up with more comprehensive ideas in developing efficient and effective online PE instruction that could go well or be at par with the students’ achievements in prior traditional face to face education environments.
