Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effects of asynchronous learning modality on Grade III teachers at San Gabriel Elementary School. Karalis (2020) stated that the Philippine education system is dramatically impacted by the ongoing teaching-learning brought on by the growth of distance education, where classes have been conducted virtually to prevent the spread of the virus. Most learning activities have been moved online in all schools because of the abrupt physical distance created by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in some schools' change in emphasis for a curriculum with a strong online presence.

The researchers utilized the descriptive method to focus on the effects of asynchronous learning modality on selected grade III teachers of San Gabriel Elementary School. Using the purposive sampling method, researchers chose thirty (30) respondents currently teaching at San Gabriel Elementary School.

The effects of asynchronous learning modality on the overall well-being of teachers are interpreted as moderately agree. The results can be interpreted as moderately agree regarding the emotional and mental aspects, challenges encountered in the teaching-learning process, mastery of the subject matter, time management, and parents' involvement. The research also found effects such as strained eyes from increased screen time and back pain due to bad ergonomics. The teachers don't have that much enthusiasm due to the least interaction with the students, and teachers feel exhausted or drained from adjusting to new pedagogical practices. The challenges they encountered were feeling incapable of their tasks and outputs, no proper evaluation to monitor the student outcomes, not having enough for their families, and the work of parents' schedules interfering with the ability to help their children with their schoolwork.

This study will provide guidelines and a chance to review the study, ensuring that the teachers' favorable comments are maintained and addressing any areas that need to be improved. The teachers' capacity to balance and comprehend the learning concepts according to their pacing is facilitated by the openness of time and accessibility of the learning materials. On the other hand, there are challenges to be aware of when introducing an asynchronous online learning modality, such as the feeling of limited to no interaction with students.
