Abstract

Numerous regions worldwide face water shortages due to increasing demand and limited resources. In many areas, particularly in developing countries lacking access to the electricity grid, obtaining clean, decontaminated water presents a significant challenge. Therefore, recycling wastewater is essential. This research aimed to create a solar-powered purification system capable of converting wastewater into recycled water for various beneficial purposes, including agricultural and landscaping irrigation, industrial operations, toilet flushing, and groundwater replenishment. Additionally, the utilization of renewable energy technology, such as solar panels paired with battery storage, was examined to ensure continuous power for the system, particularly in remote or rural areas lacking electricity and during emergencies or natural disasters.

This study employed a true experimental research design to investigate the cause-and-effect relationship of the Innovative Water for Wellness (IWW) System on wastewater. Wastewater from two different sources was collected using a 300-ml sterilized container, with one sample collected from each source. After passing through the water purification system, the treated wastewater from the two different sources was collected in sterilized 300-ml containers. The water underwent microbiological testing to identify contaminants. Descriptive statistics, such as average mean tests, were utilized to evaluate the efficiency of the IWW system.

The Innovative Water for Wellness (IWW) System was able to purify wastewater containing Total Coliform, Thermotolerant Coliform, and Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC) with an average of less than 1.1 through the Multiple Tube Fermentation Technique and Pour Plate under microbiological testing, indicating that all tests were below the standard parameter. The system also recorded the production of 3 liters of water in 59 minutes and 32.4 seconds and is capable of operating continuously for 9 hours due to its dual power source setup, utilizing energy stored from the battery and the solar panels.

The Innovative Water for Wellness (IWW) System has demonstrated its ability to effectively convert wastewater into recyclable water, validated by laboratory tests. Moreover, its impressive efficiency is evident as it can purify 3 liters of water in just 59 minutes and 32.4 seconds. Furthermore, its seamless transition between power sources guarantees uninterrupted operation, establishing it as a dependable solution in scenarios of water scarcity.
