Abstract

INTRODUCTION

The Department of Education has implemented reading programs to enhance the academic performance of pupils in public elementary schools. The researcher conducted this study to determine the relationship between the level of comprehension and academic performance in mathematics among grade 6 pupils in Magsaysay Elementary School Infanta, Quezon.

METHODS

Quantitative Method of Research

RESULTS

Mostof the pupil-respondents were categorized as instructional readers in terms of reading comprehension skills while fairly satisfactory in performance in mathematics.

DISCUSSIONS

The majority of the respondents were in instructional level who can only read when guided by the teacher and had low academic performance in mathematics. There is a significant relationship that exists between the level of comprehension and academic performance in mathematics among grade 6 pupils in Magsaysay Elementary School. Based from the findings and conclusions, recommendations were drawn which served as basis in designing and implementing intervention program to enhance the pupils' reading comprehension skills and academic performance in mathematics.
