Classroom Management Strategies and their Effects to the Classroom Behavior and Academic Performance of the Grade Five Pupils

INTRODUCTION
One of the challenges that teachers are facing nowadays is addressing the behavioral problems of the pupils inside the classroom. In line with this dilemma is the poor academic performance of the pupils labeled as misbehaving. Hence, those pupils have great tendencies of getting low grades. This study aimed to find out how effective classroom management helps in creating a positive learning atmosphere, eventually leading to pupils' positive academic performance.
METHODS
Pupils were identified through a survey. A questionnaire about classroom management strategies was given and answered by the teachers. Also, the academic performance of the pupils was gathered and recorded. Behavioral problems, classroom management strategies and academic performance were correlated to identify their relationship.
RESULTS
Pupils show different behavioral problems inside the classroom as identified by their teachers. There is a relationship between classroom management strategies and positive classroom behavior. There is a relationship between positive classroom behavior and academic performance.
DISCUSSIONS
Teachers should be aware of the different learnings styles of the pupils. Not all strategies are applicable to all learners. Classroom management is an important factor in learning. This should be done effectively and efficiently. Teachers should be aware of the different classroom strategies that will be helpful and effective. Effective classroom management strategies help pupils to develop a positive classroom attitude. Positive classroom attitude leads to positive academic performance. Teachers should find out the causes of misbehaviors or behavioral problems of the pupils. Teachers shouldn't stick to the traditional ways of classroom management strategies. They should base it on the learning styles of the learners.
