INTRODUCTION
Educators believe that effective classroom management increases learner's engagement, decreases disruptive behaviors, and makes good use of instructional time. However, managing classroom discipline and order at this time is more difficult to handle. A teacher needs to know and identify effective techniques and strategies in controlling learners' behavior. In this premise, the teacher should know the individual differences of his/her students, their personal profiles, family background, learning capacities, interest and learning preferences to implement interventions appropriate to individual strengths and needs.
This study aimed to find out the best classroom management practices used by teachers in the classroom. Is there a significant relationship between academic performance and classroom management practices of the respondents?
METHODS
The study utilized the descriptive research design. This study is guided by the notion mentioned by Fox and Bayat (2007) and Shields and Rangarjan (2013) which aimed to describe the classroom management practices of secondary school teachers and its relationship to students' academic performance.
RESULTS
The academic performance of the students was satisfactory. The level of classroom management practices of the respondents was effective. Classroom management practices of the teachers were significantly related to students' academic performance. The problems identified were frequently encountered by the respondents. An action plan was developed to improve the classroom management practices of the teachers and students’ academic performance.
DISCUSSIONS
To increase the academic performance of the students, the classroom management practice of the teachers should be improved, enhanced, and sustained. The respondents should undergo further training and benchmarking on excellent classroom management practices. School administrators should conduct regular supervision to improve the classroom management practices of the teachers and eventually increase student's academic performance. The action plan should be implemented to lessen the problems encountered by the teachers. The action plan should be recommended for implementation in all schools in the Municipality of Silang. Similar and parallel research should be conducted focusing on other variables such as absenteeism, drop-out rates, and other intervention programs.
