Abstract

INTRODUCTION

A preschool classroom is a common place for the children of today. It is very important to look at the quality and effectiveness of preschool education and how it lies in the teachers' hand. Through the years, the establishment of pre-schools in the Philippines continuously increased in percentage. However, teaching young learners may be challenging, rewarding, and even surprising. The main essence of this research is to know how teachers deal with preschool children with behavior problems. This study will determine the classroom behavior problems of preschool children in San Juan East District.

METHODS

Descriptive method of research was used. This study used a questionnaire as a tool for gathering data. Twenty-three preschool teachers from public elementary schools in the San Juan East District responded to a set of questions. An interview was also conducted with some public preschool teachers in the San Juan East District as they were equipped with knowledge about the necessary information relevant to this study.

RESULTS

Many preschool teachers who responded and participated in this study considered the classroom behavior problems of preschool children a very serious problem. Both home and school factors contribute to behavior problems of pupils to a great extent. Perhaps, suggested corrective measures were considered a very great extent. These include reminding children of the rules and regulations; paying attention to children's needs, and coordinating with parents for the proper monitoring of children at home. The proposed additional classroom activities are designed to minimize the classroom behavior problems encountered by preschool teachers.

DISCUSSIONS

The results demonstrate the need for additional classroom activities to minimize the classroom behavior of preschool children may be presented to some authorities for their suggestions and comments, validation and implementation. In addition, the preschool teachers should be in constant contact with the children's parents not only to update them with the progress but to establish working relations to enhance the children's development in all aspects. It is at this point that the researcher deemed it is necessary to conduct this study because they believe that being future preschool teachers will help them a lot in acquiring further knowledge and experiences on how to deal and address the young children within the classroom situations.
